TERM 4
We had a great trip to the zoo on Monday 5th November. Take a look at these photographs of the animals that we saw. We learnt about animal adaptations from Richard when we went into the Education Centre. We also learnt about how the natural habitat for many of these animals around the world is changing and how many of these animals will be extinct in the wild in even eight years time. We enjoyed the day, the weather was fine and we came home tired but happy. Many thanks to all the kind parent helpers who came with us on the day.

Grandfriends Day
We enjoyed having our Grandfriends with us, looking at our classroom and talking to us about life at school when they were at school and comparing it with life at school now. We played some old fashioned games like Ludo, knucklebones, elastics, dots, chess and checkers and we also went to the library and had a look at books together. After that we were able to have a picnic lunch with our own Grandfriends. It was lots of fun and we are looking forward to the next time it happens.

On Grandfriend's Day we are making 'Wishing Stars' with our 'Grandfriend' by Leah Stanley
How to make a wishing star.
1. Cut a strip of paper about 1cm wide .
2. Make a loop at the end of the strip of paper.
3. Tuck the longest strip through the loop and make sure that it is tight.
fold the small piece that is sticking out to the top so that it looks like a pentagon shape.
4. Keep on wrapping the long piece all around the pentagon.
5. Tuck the left -over bits into a pocket.
6. Pinch all the corners until they are sharp and pop-up.
Now you have finished making a wishing star!!

As part of our Dairy Farming unit, we went to Ambury Farm. Check out the great video that Mr Voigt compiled for us. We love the funny part with the chicken at the end! Great work Mr Voigt and thank you!

We had a great time with Mrs Anderson during "Scoot Skills" on Friday. We learnt how to scoot safely, hopping off and walking our scooters over pedestrian crossings, looking out for "sneaky" driveways and finding clues around the playground. We had to practise breaking in time and how to avoid obstacles. We had great fun and even the sun was shining down on us! Constable Painter checked out our helmets for safety and helped us in the playground.

Take a look at these photos of our trip to Ambury Park Farm in Mangere. We had a great time and were very fortunate that on both of the days Year 4 went to the farm, the rain had stopped for the whole day. We learnt a lot about the farming of dairy cattle on the farm and the processing of milk and we had lots of fun.

Take a look at these photos swimming at the pools. Our lessons were on Mondays.

During our Speedminton lessons with Mr Mannion, we have been learning how to keep our eyes on the speeder and to see how many times we can hit the speeder up into the air and hit it again without dropping it. We have also learnt to play King. We are getting better at hitting the speeder backwards and forwards between partners. We really enjoy our lessons with Mr Mannion.

Here are some Kagan Cooperative Projects that Room 5D completed for our topic study on 'Inventions.'
Students have selected roles . All team members contribute to the research, design and presentation of their project. Social, organisational and educational skills are learnt along the way. We had great fun and are really proud of our group's efforts. The projects are on display in our classroom.

We will be adding work samples and pictures of class activities to share during Term 3. Students will be entering some examples of their own written work to save to their web page. There will be times when a student has not had time to edit his/her work and the sample will be a work in progress. Students have their own log-in details and may be able to edit the work at home or in their spare time. We are learning as we go with the wiki and hope that you enjoy viewing it and using it as time goes by.

Check out the animoto we made about our favourite books:

Check out Our Book week:

Have a look at this great video about how to make a geode with crystals. If you are going to try this at home you will need adult supervision.
